Ma’arat Keshet Rappelling

Went hiking in the highlands of Western Gallelie in the area in and surrounded Ma'arat Keshet cave. The natural rock formation is an ancient cave in which the sandstone ceiling has collapsed leaving the stronger limestone arch intact. The result are 200 foot rappell points into the depths of the cave.Cave Picture

Fortunately for me, my most intense connection to the Land of Israel occurred during the 100 foot section of my descent in which the solid foundation of the rock face gave way to a bubble of air extending in all directions infinitely.

As I dangled in midair, as if my downward motion had been stopped but my ability to shake and maneuver hadn't been hindered, I felt my first nationalist aspirations for my homeland. Just as nationalism has stymied the forward progression of this land, I too felt as if  all my movement was wasted energy as I sat on my harness, locked in place in my three dimensional existence.

My love for the feeling of floating in space had stopped me from reaching my goal.

I am Israel.
